Peter Barker invited me up to DCC the last weekend of May to fish the peak of the smallmouth spawn. The big girls were on the nests in high numbers defending their beds with abandon. Long story short, Pete and I landed nine bass over 5 pounds and many more in the 4 pound range.
We sight fish the gin clear lake by slowly putting around while standing on the seats looking for nests. When we find a nest we hit reverse and start tossing tubes and wacky rigged senkos. It takes a big hookset to get through the lips of these big fish. This is by far my favorite fishing trip of the year.:D
