My First Turkey
I shot my first turkey April 10th. Dad and I woke up at 4:30AM and were out by 5:30. We got out and set up and the hunting stunk. We got out of there and went home. In the afternoon around 4:30PM we went back out. As soon as we got out of the car we could here gobbling. We thought the turkeys were getting to close to the roost so we set up in some pines. After a little listening we knew we had to get closer to the intersection of the trails where the roost was near. There was a hill going down to the intersection of the trails so we stayed at the top. Dad put the decoy halfway down were it could be seen from the bottom. I sat in front of a big pine and my dad hid himself in some brush. He started calling and the turkey gobbled back, getting closer and closer. Finally he came into view at the bottom and he saw the decoy and went into full display. The tom kept in full display all the way up the hill where the decoy was. His head popped up by the decoy and BANG I shot him and he was down.
It was a great experience!
